Asahi Refining Appoints Dr. Mike Gradwell as Mint Director to Lead Asahi’s Mint Division

Asahi Refining is excited to announce that Dr. Mike Gradwell has joined the Company in the role of Mint Director based in Miami, FL. Dr. Gradwell joins Asahi Refining from the South African Mint where he was the Executive responsible for Technology and Product Development and was key in the launch of the renowned Silver Krugerrand Bullion coin program.
With this appointment, Asahi Refining sets its focus on becoming a world leader in precious metals minting and product development.
Dr. Gradwell comes to Asahi Refining with a Ph.D. in Chemistry and a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) with a focus in Marketing and Leadership.
As an Executive at the South African Mint he was responsible for developing and communicating the technical vision of the mint and providing research and development aligned to the strategic and commercial objectives for the business. Divisions under his supervision included Research and Development, Die Development and Manufacturing as well as the Safety, Health, Environment and Quality Teams.
In 2016, Dr. Gradwell was elected as the Deputy Chairman of the International Mint Directors Conference (MDC) Technical Committee, a committee focused on the transference of ideas and knowledge to support technological advancements in the minting industry.
